Dear Daniel,

The Healing Ministry of Sophia is an association of healers and body workers, shamans and shamankas, astrologers, chiropractors, pipe carriers of three tribes, rune and Reiki masters and practitioners, devotees of Muktananda, Gurumayi, and Meher Baba, and other spiritual groups, wiccan priestesses and priests, and magicians of various kinds with an emphasis on Celtic material. And there are others, but a complete listing would be tedious. You undoubtedly get the idea.

Just about all the people mentioned use the Animal Essences in different ways. Here are some of them:

We have had glowing reports on the use of the Wolf Essence by drumming circles. All of them have reported amazing increases in cross communication among the drummers and a perceptible increase in the energy raised by the group for their particular purpose.

The Wolf Essence has also been used by two of the rune masters of the group for their Inner Realm work with results that ensured a permanent order being placed. The Rune Inner Realm work in some cases approximates what happens on shamanic journeys, and our Potawatomi shamanka found it a wonderful aid.

Our healer, Silent Wolf found that after being given some of the Wolf Essence by a Blackfoot shamanka, his wolf guide became visible to his psychic friends. So palpable was it in fact, that he, and one of the healers of the group felt impelled to take the wolf out for exercise, and they walked it round the park. Their experiences were interesting.

The Owl Essence has been used in shaman journeys, meditation and in hair magic ceremonies. In ceremonies that some of the magician/healers use to remove past life problems, they have found that the client finds it easier to access the problem with the insight into the darkness of the subconscious that Owl gives. It is useful in dream interpretation and in group meditation.

Some of our body workers have found that Buffalo has enabled them remain grounded when dealing with clients having multi-dimensional problems. Many members use it when they begin to feel dispersed, and it grounds and connects them immediately to present time.

A few of our female Elders are associated with crone work, and one of them, who is a Reiki Master, a hypnotherapist, a Blackfoot shamanka pipe carrier, and a crone of Women Within, has recommended that people who do this sort of work use Eagle and Buffalo together. Those who have done so report a remakable enhanced ability to connect with Earth and the Higher Self during work that demands complete awareness of present time and both dimensions.

We have all used Hummingbird after dealing with emotional challenges and for pre-ritual work where heavy energy is to be avoided.

The most serious Essence so far is Snake. Everyone who has used it as an aid to transformation processes has reported that it is almost instantaneous in effect, and very powerful. Our 200+ pound ex-marine shaman leaned weakly on my shoulder and murmured in his basso profondo, "Douglas, that Snake Essence sure kicks arse!" Another member, who is a professional masseur was checking out his aura and chakra balance and took a heavy dose of Snake. He had to stay in bed the whole of Saturday while he got rid of several months of karma over the weekend. Very intense. My recommendation is that people not used to dealing with such strong energies put a couple of drops in their tub instead of a half dropper under the tongue. This method can be used with all the Essences and is very useful with those that a person uses regularly.

The gentler transformation Essence is Butterfly, and those who have used it in ritual have found that their dreams have been vivid and easy to understand, leading to effortless insights and progress.

Some of the magicians and shaman have been asked to clear out old buildings of bad stuff from the past, and the shaman particularly, who are more likely to experience the vibes than the magicians, recommend Turtle to keep thoroughly grounded when in difficult energy situations. The magicians, who tend to clear things out without regard to experiencing them, also recommend Turtle before banishing rituals because there is less danger of an imbalance of energy that could drain the magician. Some of our members are professional readers..........Runes, Tarot, Astrology, I Ching, and so forth. All of them recommend the amazing ability of Spider Essence to enhance the power to integrate data and find intuitive connections among what seem to be distinct matters.

Two accounts of how the essences work with people and animals from Shay Casati, Animal Communicator and Equine Massage Therapist

"A vet I know asked me to go out to this place to see a horse, a gelding that is 10 to 11 years old. He's been surly all his life. When I got there I saw how surly he was. He didn't want to be handled, didn't want people around. He had no joy and a lot of anger.

I immediately knew that I was to give him some of the animal essences. I filled a spray bottle and added drops of Hummingbird, Butterfly, Dolphin, and Wolf.

I squirted in his mouth and within three minutes, I kid you not, this horse relaxed. I could see his eyes change. He went from being uptight to "Oh my god, I CAN be soft." This was amazing!

I put a lot of drops in his large barrel of water--which lasts 2-3 days, so he kept taking it over those days, and he has never gone back to being surly. He's a different, happier horse. The vet says that the change in the personality of this horse is phenomenal."

The second account:

"I have a friend named Liz who is a physical therapist and who is learning about this animal work. She has a horse that she keeps at my place. One day I just had a strong intuitive sense that I was supposed to take the animal essences out to the barn.

At the time I didn't know why I had to take them out to the barn, but when I got there, Liz was at the barn and I laughed because now I knew why. I told her about the essences and she reached into the box and pulled out Dolphin. She took some drops.

She has a very fear-based horse--he likes people but he is real anal-retentive, uptight and not at ease. Liz put some drops of Dolphin on a sugar cube and gave it to him. Right away he started getting quiet--we took him out in the paddock and he was not on a lead rope, and I saw the energy between Liz and her horse change. The horse's whole physical energy changed--from being uptight and in fear, to being very soft. This animal had had such a hard edge--and now he was very much in his body. I could see intelligence and awareness come into his eyes. And I could see the connection between Liz and this animal.

Liz asked me later "You know what I felt? I felt this level of communication between us that I have never felt before--like something shifted that I've never felt before." She had not seen the description of Dolphin essence and I showed her the place where it says that dolphin enhances communication between people and animals--and as she read it she just started to cry. It was a very beautiful thing.

The Dolphin essence created a doorway for them--it opened something in her and in the horse and allowed them to connect in the deepest way."
